Jakarta, August 26th, 2013 – Century Park Hotel, the official hotel partner of “Sumo Tournament 2013”, is proud to announce its participation on supporting Sumo Tournament in Jakarta 2013, back in August 24th – 25th, 2013. These are the list of some extraordinary services given by Century Park Hotel to the sumo wrestlers & whole “Sumo Tournament 2013” committees.

Media Gathering & Dapour Introduction, August 21st, 2013

Dozens of media partner were exclusively invited to have an interactive press conference with Mr. Bilal Chamsine, Mr. Ario Santoso – Director Of Sales Century Park Hotel, Mr. Takuji Yoshida. The event was a part of Century Park Hotel services to introduce “Dapour” restaurant & support the Sumo tournament at the same time.

“We are very proud to become the official hotel partner for Sumo Tournament in Jakarta 2013 in August 2013. Sumo is originated as one of the most traditional and spiritual activities in Japan and believed that it has been around for 1000 years. The tournament will be the first time ever being held in an ASEAN country and we are very excited to become a part of this historical event”, explain Mr. Bilal Chamsine, General Manager of Century Park Hotel.

Sumo Wrestlers Arrival, August 22nd, 2013

40 sumo wrestlers were finally arrived at Century Park Hotel on August 22nd. The check-in process went off without a hitch and proved to be a huge success. Among the arrival group, there was Oguruma “Oyakata” (title for a former sumo wrestler). As sumo wrestlers finished their check-in process, a tasty buffet awaited them, ranging from main courses to desserts.

Reception Dinner, August 23rd, 2013

Century Park Hotel team were once again showing their all-out performance during the “TOYOTA presents Sumo Tournament in Jakarta 2013” Official Reception Party at the Kridangga ballroom. Top of the event was the session that everybody had been waiting for: Kagami Biraki!, it’s a ceremony performed at celebratory events in which the lid of the sake barrel is broken by a wooden mallet. Kagami Biraki represents an opening to harmony and good fortune.

A number of VIP guests were attending the reception: Mr. Vince Socco – Toyota Motor Asia Pacific, Mr. Rachmat Gobel - Panasonic, Mr. Satoru Arai – Sony, Mr. Mikio Kawasaki – All Nippon Airways, Mr. Tadashi Ogawa – Japan Foundation, Mr. Johnny Darmawan - PT. Astra International Director, Garuda Indonesia & Japan Sumo Association representation.

“Indonesia is a land of diversity. Our National Motto is “Unity in Diversity”, that’s why me & my team are wearing national batik patterns that represent the diversity of this country. Part of Indonesia's diversity comes from welcoming new cultures and so we welcome the sport of Sumo to our island for the first time.”, said Mr. Bilal Chamsine during his speech.

Leaving Century Park Hotel, August 26th, 2013

On their last day at Century Park Hotel, “Sumo Tournament 2013” champions, including Mr. Harumafuji (The main champion of the Tournament) signed the sponsor’s flags as a big thank you to the event sponsors.

This Sumo tournament is officially certified as 40th year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation by Japanese Foreign Ministry and Nihon Sumo Kyokai and Gotanda Denshi are aiming to build stronger diplomatic relationship between two country and ASEAN Countries by presenting the Sumo to the people of Indonesia as the Japanese traditional culture.
